On Saturday, September 9, 2023 at West Richmond Friends Meeting in Richmond, Indiana, all of us from Open Table Friends Church are invited to gather alongside many others from the New Association of Friends to participate in this annual gathering. The event runs from 10 am until 4 pm that Saturday, so we will be travelling on Friday afternoon/evening and staying the night in order to participate. If you choose to join us, you would be welcome to stay over Saturday evening as well, gather with another New Association meeting for worship in the morning, and possibly take a tour of the Home of Levi and Catharine Coffin as well as the Coffin Meetinghouse (which is part of the New Association) as well.
If you would like to be part of the group to head to Indiana on September 8 & 9, please click/tap the button below and fill in your information so we can determine how many will be attending, what we will do for lodging, as well as the costs involved. If you are interested but don't know if you can commit yet, please fill out the form too!
From the outside it looks like a normal, beautifully-restored, Federal-style brick home built in 1839. On the inside, however, it has some unusual features that served an important purpose in American history. This eight-room home served as a safe haven for more than 1,000 freedom-seekers on their journey to Canada. Levi and Catharine Coffin’s home became known as “The Grand Central Station of the Underground Railroad.”
